I like the detail in the abdomen. I am not sure if your creature is in profile view (bottom image). If he is, He seem to be leaning forward a bit too much. I am sure the rigging would solve the problem or at least I hope it does @.@ I can't wait to see a colored image :)
It's looking pretty cool so far, it's got a nice touch of flora-like design in it. At the moment though, you have a lot of good d etails going but the physical structure is a little lacking. For example his legs don't feel solid, you may need to push the exoskeleton feel more
