Hands

Been trying to form the hands, here's what they look like so far.

  1. Allan,
The hand looks really good on top. How ever, the bottom image looks a bit wide. I would bring the edge in where the pinky resides just slightly. There isn't a huge fatty pad on that side of the hand. Your thumb looks a little funny. I think you need a bit more detail on the thumb. try taking a look at your own hand and model your character's hand after that. Also there is a huge issue on the underneath part of your hand. When you hand bends the way your hand is being modeled, the thumb pad is going to protrude more than the rest of your hand. Think of an unbalance upside down "U". Try to look at each individual fatty pads and how they connect rather than their distinct shape. Another issue you are having with your hands is that you model the outer side of the hands in a different position than the inner side of the hand. If Gavin doesn't respond by the beginning of class, I will try to give a better explanation if you would like. I am hoping Gavin will respond with a much better comment that better communicates what I am trying to say >.<

  2. Speaking from past experiences, next time make the fingers straight. Its SO much easier to sculpt them, retopo them for a game model, and (should you choose) rigging. Let me tell ya', getting those bends is hard enough without the fingers being so close together. Even with masking, you'll find it a lot more accessible with the fingers spread apart.

By the way, I agree with Katherine about the thumb, it is off. It should be shaped like a macaroni noodle tipped away from the hand, and the top part (where the nail is) should be noticeably flatter than the bottom; still round, but not as much as the other end.
